Madrid is now officially one of the finalists in the race to host the Games in 2020 after spending the first cut of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) next to Tokyo and Istanbul.
The aspirants who fell in the Olympic race are Baku and Doha, announced in the press conference of Quebec by Briton Mark Adams IOC communications director.
The decision was greeted with jubilation by those responsible for capital project, led by the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, and the Mayor of Madrid, Ana Botella, who traveled to Canada to see the new notes that the CIO put to Madrid 2020.
This is the third time that exceeds the cut Madrid after the 2012 Olympic and 2016, but eventually host the Games went to London and Rio de Janeiro, respectively.
The final choice too decidefor the 2020 Games will be held at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires, to be held on September 7, 2013.
