The new design of the "Mercado de la Cebada" in la Latina

In 2007 the Madrid City Council organised an international architectural competition, in which the winner was the architect office of Rubio & Álvarez-Sala, formed by the architects Carlos Rubio Carvajal and Enrique Álvarez-Sala.

The latest proposal initially approved the 27th of July of 2011 after the public inquiry, returns to perform with major developments and substantial improvements.
The main one is the incorporation of a Public Park of 4,200 m2 on the roof, a new viewpoint of the city.
 The new public garden in height, is easily accessible from the street. Trees, shops, gastronomic points , observatories, playground ... willing to become a unique reference.
